I first picked up Desire Map, by Danielle LaPorte, in 2012 after leaving a leadership career in the beauty industry to be home with my children. I was beginning to slip away from my sense of self, catching a glimpse of some crazy lady in the mirror and wondering if this is who I was: just a tired, frizzy-haired, leaky mom. When you leave a career, go through a breakup, pivot into new directions, branch into new opportunities, sometimes it can feel like you are turning into someone else - and that someone can be confusing if you don't hold fast to who you are.
The Desire Map became my bible for the next, Oh...I don't know...10 years? I needed to get back to the core of who I was, individually, so I could show up, collectively, and in the best ways, for those precious folks who relied on me. Desire Map is a guided reading that helps you identify your core desired feelings, establish or clarify your values so you can live from that place of authentic and sincere intention.
Danielle describes Desire Map as:
A heart-centered approach to sourcing your true power, clear thinking, and serving with joy.
Return to your heart.
Choose your feelings.
Create your life with intention.
My copy of Desire Map has been written in 3 times, each time with different color ink of course, because I have needed to come back to myself several times throughout my life, as people and society tend to grow louder about who they believe you are - or who they believe you should be. Desire Map is a wonderful resource for getting clear about who you are and what you stand for - identifying core principles for guiding personal and professional decisions. And Danielle speaks in such a real and raw way that leaves you feeling like you've just shared a beer with an old friend, a wise sage or native shaman - someone who sees only the good in you.
You can read more about Desire Map HERE or pick it up at The Well Read Moose.
Let me know what you think! I'd love to hear what you discover about yourself.
